The Singapore Saree - Jubilee Collection – Lost Diamonds
Mid-1986s – The National Theatre was demolished
Back in 8 Aug 1963, Singapore’s first national theatre was built to commemorate Singapore's self-government and was the designated venue for international performances, universities’ convocation ceremonies and national day rallies. Due to space constraints, it had to be demolished in mid-1986 to make way for the construction of Singapore's first MRT lines.
LOST DIAMONDS seeks to preserve the architectural elements of this lost treasure. In the pleats, the glittering stars depicts that of precious diamonds scattered in the brilliant night sky and the pallu features the actual architectural elements of a five-pointed facade which represented the five stars of the Singapore flag.
